ASA

History

The Alberta Soccer Association was established April 19th 1909 in Red Deer by various groups and cities from around the Province of Alberta. This gathering of representatives created the Alberta Association Football League (A.A.F.L.) which became Alberta Soccer Association in 1915.

Governance

Contrary to what many believe; soccer players in the province are not members of the ASA. The districts and associations of the province are the members of the ASA and elect the ASA Board of Directors. Soccer players in the province are members of these districts and elect the Board of Directors at their district Annual General Meeting (AGM). The ASA itself is a member of the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) along with the other provincial and territorial soccer associations in Canada.

The CSA governs soccer in Canada, the ASA governs soccer in Alberta and the local districts and associations govern soccer at the local level. This relationship is hierarchical in that each member conforms to its governing body(s) bylaws.
