SPDSA members elect a new President

Mr Danny Bowie is the new President of the Sherwood Park District Soccer Association. When asked about the potential for a conflict of interest in being both the SPDSA President and an ASA Director, Mr Bowie stated that if elected as SPDSA President he would resign as an ASA Director.

Ms Chater did not stand for re-election, nor does it seem the membership would have stood for it. A resolution to amend the bylaws of the association such that "The Past President may sit as a full Member of the Board of Directors for the next year, up to the next Annual Meeting." was defeated.

Only one board member from the previous board will sit on the new board; Mr Darryl Hopkins, former Equipment Director, is now a Director at Large by acclamation. The new board still faces some challenges. Even though they reduced their numbers to 11 from 26 they still have 3 positions to fill, including Secretary,Treasurer and a Director at Large.

It was also confirmed that the bylaws approved at the 2008 AGM were not successfully filed with Alberta Registries. The outgoing board indicated that the SPDSA lawyer was lax in filing and that issues existed with the numbering of sections.

For the second year in a row audited financial statements were not available for the membership. For an association claiming 1.4 million dollars in revenues for 2009 this is unacceptable, entreaties that "we are volunteers" is not an adequate response.
