December update from ASA Board of Directors

posted Jan 3, 2011 2:50 PM by Tyler Durden

The ASA Board of Directors has sent out an email explaining the financial impact on the ASA of recent court actions.

It is important for everyone to understand the financial impact on Alberta Soccer Association caused by the plaintiffs who took ASA board members to court without appropriately going through soccer’s judicial system. The plaintiffs are Edmonton District Soccer Association, Central Alberta Soccer Assoc., Sunny South District Soccer Assoc., Chris Billings, Danny Bowie, Mike Troke, Shauna Aab, and Les Hodges. They all lost in court. The mounting legal costs they have forced on ASA is now several hundred thousand dollars. This does not include legal fees incurred by the plaintiffs. Nor does it include cost for their current inappropriate activities.

....

The damage caused by these groups listed above to ASA soccer programs is significant. Our annual budget is $3.4 million and to strip away almost 20% and climbing for legal fees is unacceptable. Programs have been cut back or
eliminated. Audit and Budget work normally commenced in June hasn’t started. Should these groups be held accountable? The answer is yes.
